Light's Body
The photograph above tells much of the Easter story. Passion week includes Jesus's arrest, trial, death and resurrection. We have been preparing these many weeks of Lent for the full impact of these events. I took the photograph above in Jerusalem at the entrance the the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Pilgrims for about 1700 years have carried crosses along the Via Dolorosa, memorializing Jesus' walk from his trial to his death. Tradition has it that the Church of the Holy Sepulcher rests on the sight of both Jesus's death and the site of his tomb. The crosses that pilgrims carry are left standing at the entrance to the Church. Then the pilgrims enter through the low, narrow stone entrance. This is an act both of humility and "emptying ourselves" in the presence of God. At Jesus' death, Light was transformed. At the resurrection, Light's Body again came into being in a new form. No darkness is absolute. No light is possessed. The God who spoke creation into being spoke with light. Light is the medium of creation. Jesus came to share that light. Jesus came to help us recognize the light God has already invested in us. Jesus came to tell us that when we share this light the Body of Light grows. Happy Easter! Blessing, Ron
